Society for International Affairs (SIA): 2026 AI Regulations Workshop

International Trade & Investment Counsel, Sylvia Costelloe, will speak at the Society for International Affairs (SIA) 2026 AI Regulations Workshop on September 16.

During the panel, “AI Regulations and Policy,” Sylvia will discuss how evolving AI regulations are shaping compliance obligations under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The session will explore recent legislative and regulatory developments, congressional activity, DDTC and BIS policy priorities, interagency coordination efforts, and the practical implications of these changes for compliance programs. Joining Sylvia on the panel are Joseph Khawam of the Law Reform Institute and Maximilian Vierlboeck, Ph.D., of NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology. Drawing on her experience advising US and international companies on export controls, economic sanctions, and AI-related national security issues, Sylvia will offer practical insights into navigating the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape for emerging technologies.
