Kaitlin represents clients in high-stakes litigation, government investigations, and enforcement actions. A seasoned trial lawyer and former Assistant United States Attorney, Kaitlin is frequently called upon when the stakes are highest—whether a matter involves a government investigation, allegations of fraud or regulatory misconduct, or a complex dispute that may ultimately be decided at trial.

Kaitlin has first-chaired nine federal bench and jury trials and conducted a total of eleven criminal and civil trials within the past three years, giving her recent courtroom experience that distinguishes her from many litigators whose practices rarely reach trial. She approaches every matter with a trial lawyer’s perspective, helping clients develop legal strategies that are informed by how cases are ultimately presented in court.

Client Work

Kaitlin’s practice spans government investigations, white-collar criminal defense, complex commercial litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory enforcement matters. She advises clients responding to investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and other federal and state enforcement agencies. She also conducts sensitive internal investigations for clients facing allegations of misconduct, compliance failures, or potential regulatory or criminal exposure.

Her healthcare practice includes representing providers and companies in matters involving the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) including payment suspensions and reimbursement disputes. In these matters, she combines her deep understanding of regulatory and enforcement actions with her strong trial skills to design strategies and advocate zealously on behalf of her clients.

Kaitlin also serves as a member of the Independent Monitoring Team (IMT) led by partner Maggie Hickey who was appointed by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to assess the City of Chicago’s compliance with a consent decree that required changes to the Chicago Police Department’s policies and practices.

Previous Work

Before joining ArentFox Schiff, Kaitlin served for over six years as an Assistant United States Attorney in both the Northern District of Illinois and the District of Columbia. During her tenure, she investigated and prosecuted a broad range of complex federal matters, including healthcare fraud, tax fraud, money laundering, cybercrime, and opioid diversion. She also prosecuted offenses arising from the January 6, 2021, attack on the United States Capitol, handling complex and highly scrutinized federal prosecutions.

As a federal prosecutor, Kaitlin earned a reputation for thoughtful advocacy, meticulous preparation, and exceptional courtroom skills. She tried numerous cases before federal juries and judges and successfully handled every stage of criminal litigation, from the earliest stages of an investigation through trial, sentencing, and appeal. Kaitlin marshals this experience to help clients anticipate government strategy, make informed decisions, and position themselves for the best possible outcome—whether through negotiation, litigation, or trial.
