Gerald (Jerry) Porter is a registered patent attorney whose practice focuses on complex patent litigation, patent counseling, and matters related to copyright, trademark, and trade secrets. He combines technical expertise rooted in his civil engineering background with extensive litigation experience to deliver practical, impactful advocacy for clients across a range of technology-driven industries. Jerry specializes in high-stakes patent disputes, excelling at distilling complex technical issues into clear, persuasive arguments for judges and juries, and has significant experience in patent prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and in inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. 

He advises clients in diverse industries, including semiconductors, medical devices, biotechnology, cryptocurrency, cybersecurity, and audio and telecommunications, and counsels clients on managing and protecting their intellectual property portfolios to navigate current challenges while anticipating future risks in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

Previous Work 

Prior to joining ArentFox Schiff, Jerry spent over a decade in private practice at prominent national law firms, where he developed deep experience in complex patent litigation and IP counseling. Jerry also served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Sally D. Adkins of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, gaining exposure to appellate proceedings at the state level. His engineering background and years of IP litigation experience equip him to provide tailored, strategic solutions for clients facing complex technology disputes across a wide range of sectors.
